History
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Alta College, Inc. (Alta) is the parent company of a system of higher education institutions that include, Westwood College, Redstone College and Westwood College Online. With over 12,000 students currently enrolled in our programs, the company operates 19 campuses in California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Texas and Virginia as well as Westwood College Online - a part of Westwood College - Denver North.
The framework of schools that make up Alta's current college system can be traced back many decades. Throughout our history, one thing has remained constant: we offer career-focused education in high-demand fields. As career challenges and opportunities are recognized, new programs are developed with the cooperation of industry leaders to meet the needs of our students, graduates and employers. Since its inception, Alta Colleges, Inc. has helped launch the careers of over 20,000 graduates and we currently employ over 3,000 full time employees, including 1,200 full and adjunct instructors.
Redstone College
Alta's Redstone College (Redstone) was founded in 1965 to offer Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) training and then expanded in 1989 to include Avionics training. In 2005 the curriculum was expanded further to include Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration and then in 2006, the Construction Management degree program was added as part of the Redstone College educational offerings. With campuses in Los Angeles and Denver, Redstone graduates are recruited by some of the nation's top aviation employers. In fact, Redstone is the nation's largest provider of newly licensed A&P Mechanics. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) statistics indicate more newly licensed FAA Airframe and Powerplant mechanics have graduated from Redstone than any other school.**
Redstone College - Denver Campus is Accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) and Redstone College - Los Angeles Campus is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE).
Westwood College
Westwood College was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1953. For many years the school was known as Denver Institute of Technology, offering diploma and degree programs in a variety of technical fields. Since then, Alta has expanded Westwood College's offerings by leveraging its proven approach of career-focused education to reach a wider array of students. We have degree programs in Business, Design, Computer & Information Technology, Industrial Services, Criminal Justice and Healthcare. Today, our Westwood schools include seventeen campuses across Southern California; Denver, Colorado; Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Arlington/Annandale, Virginia; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and Houston, Texas. We also have an online campus, Westwood College Online (offered through Westwood College - Denver North).
The Westwood College Inc. Board of Trustees
Westwood College, Inc. (Westwood) is governed by a Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for overseeing Westwood College's growth as an institution of higher education. Board duties include oversight of the College's mission, institutional purpose and academic quality.
Westwood College is accredited by national accrediting agencies, including the highly regarded national accreditation of Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), or Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) depending on the campus. Additionally, Westwood is licensed to award college degrees in every state in which it has a campus.
Westwood College Online - (A part of Westwood College Denver North)
To meet the changing needs of our students, Alta expanded our offerings to include a complete online only curriculum in 2002. Today, we have over 4,000 students enrolled in 17 online degree programs, ranging from Business Administration to Criminal Justice to Game Art & Design. Our online classes and coursework provide an interactive, hands-on learning approach that uses some of the latest multimedia technologies available to enable a rich, online learning experience.
